Most members of the Roman Catholic Church are baptized as infants. They grow up in Catholic homes and receive formal religious training: First Communion and Confirmation as they gradually come to share in the full sacramental life of the church. However, more and more non-Catholics, those previously baptized in other Christian traditions are becoming Catholic by making a solemn Profession of Faith. Still others—those who were not previously baptized and coming from traditions such as Jewish, Islam, Buddhism or Hinduism—become Catholic Christians through Baptism. Thus, after affirming their Profession of Faith or being baptized, all are confirmed and receive their First Holy Communion, thus partaking of the Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Christ, with the entire Catholic community.
