We have a new natural habitat area on our Church campus, which you are invited to visit. The site, occupied by God's wildlife, is located in the area behind the Parish Center and is certified by the National Wildlife Federation. The habitat is a result of two years of work by the Steward of the Land Ministry that you are invited to join.
The site reflects a beautiful experiential model of spirituality in nature. The Steward's used the teachings of St. Francis' creation spirituality as a guide to attract wildlife to the site and to praise God for His gift of all creatures. Features of the site include:
- A variety of native perennials planted to attract butterflies, bees, and other flying critters.
- A hummingbird feeder
- Birdbath, bird feeders, and ground accessible water receptacles for crawling creatures.
- Four rainwater harvesting barrels.
- A rock fire ring for group activities.
- Wooden log seating benches for meditation.
- A pond, under construction.
One way you can support this Ministry is by donating aluminum cans for recycling, which can be placed in the trailer by the newspaper recycling bin.
The committee has established two annual events:
THE BLESSING OF ANIMALS:
Held around the time of the feast of St. Francis - Oct. 4GOOD EARTH DAY:
Held in April every yearOccasional work projects are planned on Saturday mornings with help from youth ministry participants, please join us.
The committee is always looking for parishioners that can assist with maintaining the habitat with weekly duties such as filling the bird feeder, placing water in the bird bath, and checking the water level in the pond. Please contact Parish Office for information.
